Real Estate in 2030

Let me take you to the year 2030…
The cool Rocky Mountain air embraces your lungs as the breeze flows through your hair while standing on the deck of your dream vacation home. You turn as the sound of the fireplace crackling rings in your ears and the warmth overtakes your body stepping down into the living room. Now take a deep breath and smell the freshly baked cookies oozing with chocolate richness in the custom designed kitchen with picturesque views of the snow engulfed mountains overlooking Vail, Colorado. “Go ahead and take one, I promise it will taste perfect” says your Realtors voice overhead.

Your Realtor continues to walk you through the interior of the home describing each knook and cranny just like she was right beside you. The price is right, the floor plan perfect, and view is more than you ever imagined you would have to call home. All of a sudden you hear the shuffling of your child in the kitchen. Not any ordinary kitchen but your own. The breeze slowly goes away, the cookie slips from your fingertips, and the views diminish as you hit the pause button to help your child open his box of crayons. A dream perhaps? Not a chance.

Virtual tours of 2030

Virtual tours of the future are not just simple 3D tours but interactive hologram tours that let you see, hear, touch, and smell the property of your dreams anywhere in the world right from the comfort of your home or office. Imagine being able to feel the sand in your toes at the ocean’s edge while sitting in the mountains. Or being able to place your own furniture virtually in the house at the press of a fingertip from your television, computer, phone, or iPad to see if it is the right house for you to make an offer on?

This technology will be limitless, and easy to use. It could help our industry keep markets on track. In the next 18 years technology will continue to evolve the way society buys and sells real estate; the same way it has evolved over my personal 15 year career in the industry. Will we have robots? Perhaps, but will they actually replace the personal responsibility and understanding of working with a tangible Realtor? I don’t see that happening anytime soon, even in 18 years.

Conclusion

As a whole, I feel the real estate industry will become more creative, buyer and seller interactive, specialized, virtually realistic. Agents will need to learn to stay on the cutting edge of technology, as well as new real estate trends. The personal relationship with a Realtor will still be seen as an asset throughout 2030 since working with the human element or a real estate professional is still an advantage when making major life decisions – such as buying or selling a home.
